ABOUT US
Where We Came From
Clint Johnson has always had a passion for gender research. As a queer individual, Prof J quickly noticed that the body of research did not always reflect the real world experiences of LGBTQIA2+ individuals, including children and adolescents. Building on this, he decided to begin to bridge the gap between evidence based rigorous empirical research and a more community based approach to work that the LBGTQIA2+ community need to thrive.
Where We Are Going
Our research will propel important topics of gender and sexuality development past traditional studies. We hope to give a voice to non-heteronormative non-cisgender individuals. We hope to contribute to and inspire a new generation of literature that focuses on the unique experiences of gender and sexual variations.
What We Stand For
-
Grow our impact in scientific inquiry within the LGBTQIA2+ youth space. We will continually deepen the body of research into unique aspects of the varied LGBTQIA@+ identities.
-
Publish high-impact content that can be consumed by audiences beyond academia. We will continue to grow the visibility and consumption of our research so that findings on factors of LGBTQIA2+ identities can be integrated into mental health interventions, public policies, and social and educational programs.
What We Research
-
Children who identify as members of the LGBTQIA2+ community: What is their experience, how cisgender heterosexual peers understand their LGBTQIA2+ peers
-
LGBTQIA2+ parenting
-
Social context on children's gendered characteristics
-
Feminist and Queer psychology
Statements
Hello All,
For those of us belonging to and in support of minority groups in America, the Executive Orders signed by the president within 48 hours of his inauguration have been unnerving, and understandably so. Bear in mind that while these orders reflect the president's intentions for his upcoming term, executive orders take months and sometimes years to implement, if they get enacted at all.
Although this may provide some solace, the actions of our president and his followers echo a fearful time in history for minorities. Many of us are feeling scared, hurt, and angry. All of us will need to channel these feelings into activism. The intention now is for us, for minorities and those in support of minorities, to become complacent out of fear. For this reason, now more than ever is the time to take a stand.
From the folks here in GLITTER, we see you and we support you. You belong. You are loved. You are worthy. Let it be known that we will continue facilitating research that shines light on marginalized communities, and we will not comply.
With love,
The GLITTER family
